How the Estonia Model Works

Starting with Local Resources

The ecosystem begins with agriculture, biomass and other locally available resources. These provide the foundation for renewable energy production while reducing dependence on imported fuels.

Integrating Biomethane

Biomethane connects local resources with the wider energy ecosystem. It can be stored, transported and directed to electricity, heating and other applications, improving flexibility and system efficiency.

Flexible Energy Generation

Biomethane enables controllable electricity and heat generation, complementing weather-dependent renewable energy sources and improving overall system reliability.

Connecting the Infrastructure

Gas infrastructure, energy production, heat utilization and digital control are designed to operate as one coordinated system rather than separate assets, improving flexibility, efficiency and long-term operational performance.
